anyone do henna? NVR

Hey guys :) I'm just wondering if any of you do henna and if you do, what are your favorite places to buy the paste/favorite brands to buy? I'm not looking to mix my own paste right now because I just want to get into it at the moment. If anyone has ANY ideas or suggestions please, let me know :)

indian food mart?

mm i was thinking that would be the ideal place to buy it, however I don't think there is one anywhere near me. I don't even think we have ANY ethnic markets anywhere too close by. New hampshire is somewhat lacking in diversity, you see ;)
I was actually looking more for online vendors and/or brand reccomendations for if I COULD find a food market anywhere near me.

Is this for tattooing or hair dyeing?

I love 'Egyptian Red' henna for hair dye - I buy it as a powder at my local organics shop.

mm sorry I didn't specify, it's for tattooing. I'm looking for like premade cones of henna paste.

ahhh...good old new Hampshire. i feel I can speak of it because I lived in Maine for 5 years on eh border of NH and even though I was "not from around here" as the locals liked to remind me on a regular basis there is actually NOOOOO diversity in all of ME or NH.

sad sad sad...your best bet will likely be the the internet...

I've ordered from here. The regular henna is good but I do NOT recommend the colors. They just do not work well.

Mine darling vife does this a lot. She usually sample what they have at the local Indian grocery, though.

It might be a major drive for you, but have you thought of coming to Mass.?  Especially, Western Mass (if Boston is too far)?  I live in Western Mass and there are a TON of ethnic groceries around here.

I henna'd my hair black once (for halloween) but it tinged my hair green!

mmm about driving to mass it is too far for me to swing by JUST to pick up henna but I have family down there so next time I'm there for a birthday party or something I will definately look into it. I'm sure boston has TONS of ethnic places.

Tanevab.. I was actually looking at hennaking the other day thinking I would order from there so I think I'll just go with that to start out.

Thanks for the advice guys :)

i've found henna kits at new age/ spiritual shops.  i don't know if there are lots of those in NH either, though...

I would highly recommend the powder over the premixed tubes.  I have used both and found the premixed stuff to be very faint on my skin, while the powder made beautiful dark tattoos that lasted a long time.  You can buy kits on the internet that come with a little applicator bottle to put the mixed henna in.  Sorry I can't direct you to any specific websites....I used to do henna for teen programs as part of a summer job, and my supervisor handled the ordering and buying of the henna.

I am thinking I'll get into mixing my own eventually I was just looking for a quick tube to practice with before i decide how much time/energy i want to invest into this new hobby :)

The premixed I got at henna king was as dark as the powered that I got at an ethnic shop and mixed.

I have bought a lot of henna. We have a airbrush tattoo business and henna business. We do festivals etc. We like Henna Hut because they mix the cones when you order them. Plus their henna is awesome. No one does this!

This is great because I hate to roll cones and the application bottles hurt your hands after doing a lot of tattoos.

I do henna regularly since I have really curly hair. If I get split ends my hair will mat beyond belief. I do a 4 hour treatment about once a month to keep the ends in check. Lush used to carry a really nice conditioner that had Henna in it that had just enough to give my hair strength without changing the color, but they stopped making it in the US several years ago. Only AUS gets it now. *sad sad sad*

I have bought a lot of henna. <snipped>

How does the Hut henna stack up against the Lush henna?

I buy mine from http://iherb.com It's like $10 w/shipping, very cheap and great products! The cream is the best! Tried the powder one time and that was the last time -- such a mess.
