Your mom will get used to the idea now that it's an established fact. Tell her it's an investment in your future. You're an adult now, it's time to cut the apron strings...or unravel them from your end, whichever. Go for it. ;)b

Congratulations!

Your mom will deal with the "far away" thing ... I went to college on the other side of the country from my parents.
(And admit it, her worrying is way better than saying "great! See ya!")

You'll have a great time at Penn State! Go you, smarty-party!

Congrats! There's nothing more exciting than getting into the university you wanted. It'll be great :)

P.S. As an army brat, I went to boarding school from the age of 7. When I got into Manchester my parents' reaction was pretty much, "Ok, will you be staying there during holidays?" Business as usual!  :-D

Yeah, congrats!

I agree with everyone.  Its very nice to know that she cares alot about you.  Going away for college made me appreciate the love of my family more so and understand how much they are a part of my life (I didn't live with them since I was in the 9th grade)

Good luck!!

What are you planning on majoring in?

Yeah, I remember a student I befriended here, doing a "gap year"...while she was here her mom wrote and said, "I just finished converting my new office"...ahem, which used to be the girl's bedroom...I mean, talk about "here's your hat, what's your hurry!"

Going to college a long way from home is both a terrifying and wonderful thing.  I am going through a similar situation right now--I live in South Carolina, and will be going to college in Vermont this fall.  I try not to delude myself--I know I will be very homesick, and miss my parents and my cat, but I also know that it is a part of my growing up.  My mom is concerned, of course.  She worries that I will get sick and won't be able to come home, or that I'll be brainwashed by liberals (she tends to take things to extremes).  But I am certain that this is the right thing for me to do.  If your gut is telling you to go to Penn State, you should go.

Right you are, hehe!

Congrats on getting into the school of your choice, that is awesome news!  Of course, I might be a little biased...but you couldn't have picked a better place!  I really miss it  :)
