I'm getting my hair cut/dyed. Opinions???
Soooo...Im ready for a totally new look. I have loooong, curly hair. Its usually brown but right now it is purple.anyways...what I WANT to do, is get it cut into a really short shag cut looking thing. THEN I wanted to dye it blond and put BRIGHT streaks of pink/purple/blue. I have never had my hair short...well, I cut it up to my shoulders in third grade, but thats it. Ive always been nervous about cutting it because I have a curly/frizzy texture and I fear it will be too poofy (the weight of it holds it down) BUUUT, I bought a straightener and I am just going to suck it up (plus my hair has been pretty flat lately because of my medical stuff going on.)...IDK.....Well, today I went into a salon and was asking about cost to dye it and this customer starts on and one (and on) about how horrible blond hair will look on me becasue I am too dark and because I have dark eyebrows >:( I dunno....now i feel doubtful....what do you all think?
Here are some pics of what I want....Are all these pics the exact same thing? I think they might be. Huh...Thoughts?
and....
and again...
I don't see anything wrong with going blonde! You can talk to the stylist about colors that would work well with your skin tone, and if it really bugs you then you can have your eyebrows lightened too.
The bobs you've picked are really nice, versatile. All my friends who went from long hair to short got similar cuts ... they said it made the transition easier, and it's a very flattering style!
I'm excited to see photos of this transformation!
I LOVE the first 2 haircuts! :)>>> They are both the same by the way, just styled differently.

I agree with blackrabbit, it does makes the transition easier. I had my hair really long (and its curly too) and got that type of hair cut and I could manage just fine.
I actually havent cut my hair in almost a year and I'm going in for a new 'do' on Monday. It's so exciting to get a change like that! Show us some pics when you get it done, please!
The only problem with going blonde is that if your hair is naturally dark, you're gonna have roots....
I had my hair bleached blonde over the summer and the roots were a pain in the ass....I was having to do it at least every 4 weeks....otherwise my friend Marcy began referring to them as my "trailer park roots"
Just something to consider....
I'm getting my hair cut on Saturday...
I like the first picture....
I like the second photo best.
As far as blonde, it is going to be very expensive to keep that up, and it is hard on your hair, especially if you will straighten it also, so I would think good and long about that one.... Have you thought of going red? That might look better with your skin tone?
Wait...I like the 2nd picture better now
Yes to the cut, especially because the girl in the second pic has a very similar face shape to yours in terms of the jaw line. The straightener will become second nature--I straighten every day, and it doesn't even faze me anymore. And my hair is really healthy and think and luscious--no damage whatsoever. The other option for taming poofy hair is to blow dry it with a flat brush (or a round brush, to shape the ends) and it will come out pretty smooth.
As far as the color goes, I think the eyebrows are a valid point. I have no idea what it takes to get those done though. Definitely talk to the stylist about what color would look best--there are lots of different kinds of blonde. And since you have blue (blue-green?) eyes, that will definitely compliment it. It seems like you have an olive skin tone (warm rather than cool), so you don't want a cooler, brassy, platinum blonde...you want a more medium tone like this:

I think a tone like that would look very nice with your skin tone. You could still do the streaks too. And see, her eyebrows aren't particularly light; they're fairly dark.
But yes, I love the cut. Exciting!
When you cut your hair, donate it to Locks of Love, they make wigs for kids with diseases that make them loose their hair, or chemo patients.
As for blonde, it is high maintenance if you aren't naturally fair, like me. You may want to go up to the shoulders and get used to it before going really short, it can be quite a shock. But mine is just a few inches long and I love it.
One note about short hair cuts, they need more frequent trims to keep the shape. I get mine cut every 5 weeks and thats pushing it a bit. On the plus side, day to day it is very fast.
Those bobs look so nice! I used to have super-long hair as a kid and loathed it, when I first got it cut off as a teenager I went with a long bob. Although getting it cut off is addictive! Mine's 'boy short' as my mother likes to say, and I second GFVegmom's comment that it needs maintenance from a hairdresser (although half a minute in the morning, yes!).
Talk to the stylist about blonde shades if you want to go that way - although that said I've spoken to a few hairdressers who clearly have no idea what would really look good. Shop around. If you're hesitant about going blonde, go lighter brown or maybe an auburn? My hair's currently a dark brown with deep red tones and as I have dark eyebrows and green eyes it looks pretty good against my skin.
I recently had this style...my hair is thick and has a bit of wave..I basically have a ton of hair! Even with a straightener I could not get it to look like that...neither could the stylist. :o I asked her a million time before I did it..if it would work on my "ton of hair"...she said it would, it didn't. That being said it still looked fine . I just scrunched it and took advantage of the waves. Looked like a totally different style but still fine.
Just a thought to keep in mind.
Yea don't go with platinum... go for a nicer golden or warm blonde. I'm a weird case, as a kid I was a natural white blonde with really dark eyebrows, dark blacky-brown eyes and olive skin, but it's faded to a warm dark blonde now I'm a grown up. I've dyed it every colour from platinum to black, and the warm golden blondes suit my colouring the absolute best. I now have a haircut similar to those bobs and love it, so easy and looks better the less I do to it! Sometimes a drastic change is just the best fun :)

This is exactly why I am NOT cutting it first to shoulder length and then to my neck...I once donated 14 inches (and it still only came up to my mid-back) I called Locks of Love becasue although I knew you could donate dyed hair I assumed it would have to be a natural color, and as my hair is currently purple, I thought I would see what color they need the most- turns out, they dye pretty much all the hair they get in anyways.
I will consider what you guys said about having to get it touched up all the time...hummm...Ive been wanting to change my look so frequently that my the 4 weeks it will probably take for the roots to grow out, I'll be about ready to dye it red or something...IDK...hehe. Kaate...you give wonderful consulting. ;)b
my dads fiance is so annoyed that I am getting it cut before their wedding in July. whatev...
If you're worried about it being too poofy, ask the hairdresser to thin it out some when they cut it. I have thick hair and when I first got it cut into a bob it would get so poofy...I complained about it to my hairdresser and she worked to cut out some of the bulk and it has made such a difference! After it was cut I felt like this big weight had been lifted from my head!

Yay, I'm glad you found it helpful! I don't really know what I'm talking about, but I was looking through at your pics on facebook and contemplating it and that's what I thought. But you will look gorgeous no matter what. :-*
I want this cut, myself.
If you're worried about what the colors will look like on you, you can always use photoshop and edit a picture of yourself just to get an idea. :)
Hmm There are also websites that let you upload a picture and actually change the styles. LoL They do look a bit "off" but still give a general idea.
I'm sure whatever you do with your hair will be fine though, and besides, it grows back! :)

I just learned that Locks of Love actually just sells the hair and uses the $ for research (which probably involves animal testing). Just something to consider. I heard that Pantene has a program where they actually use the hair to make wigs for cancer patients. They are probably not a vegan company either :( I think it needs to be 8 inches at least.
I've donated my hair to Locks of Love. I'm not planning on doing it again, because I don't really see them helping much. Recipients of wigs have to pay lots for them. If I do it again, I'm going to donate to Wigs for Kids because the families don't have to pay. I think they try to charge it to insurance when possible.
