I'm getting my hair cut/dyed. Opinions???

Soooo...Im ready for a totally new look. I have loooong, curly hair. Its usually brown but right now it is purple.anyways...what I WANT to do, is get it cut into a really short shag cut looking thing. THEN I wanted to dye it blond and put BRIGHT streaks of pink/purple/blue. I have never had my hair short...well, I cut it up to my shoulders in third grade, but thats it. Ive always been nervous about cutting it because I have a curly/frizzy texture and I fear it will be too poofy (the weight of it holds it down) BUUUT, I bought a straightener and I am just going to suck it up (plus my hair has been pretty flat lately because of my medical stuff going on.)...IDK.....Well, today I went into a salon and was asking about cost to dye it and this customer starts on and one (and on) about how horrible blond hair will look on me becasue I am too dark and because I have dark eyebrows >:( I dunno....now i feel doubtful....what do you all think?

Here are some pics of what I want....Are all these pics the exact same thing? I think they might be. Huh...Thoughts?

When you cut your hair, donate it to Locks of Love, they make wigs for kids with diseases that make them loose their hair, or chemo patients.

As for blonde, it is high maintenance if  you aren't naturally fair, like me.  You may want to go up to the shoulders and get used to it before going really short, it can be quite a shock.  But mine is just a few inches long and I love it.

One note about short hair cuts, they need more frequent trims to keep the shape.  I get mine cut every 5 weeks and thats pushing it a bit.  On the plus side, day to day it is very fast.

I just learned that Locks of Love actually just sells the hair and uses the $ for research (which probably involves animal testing). Just something to consider. I heard that Pantene has a program where they actually use the hair to make wigs for cancer patients. They are probably not a vegan company either  :( I think it needs to be 8 inches at least.

I have heard the same.....

I don't know about all this, but i took the hair home and will investigate further before I send it in....here's my new do....not really what I imagined, i think my hair is too full for that (it cant be thinned because of the curls) but i like it....what do y'all think?

I love it and thinks it suits you way more than your long hair.  Glad you didn't go blond.  I am a dirty blond and can go red. I tried a medium brown once and everyone said it just wasn't right for my skin tone and colouring.  I realized that the second after I saw it on me. My mom is auburn and I have red in my hair, hence I can go the red route.

This cut makes you look younger but more mature and more vibrant.  Way to go!!!!!!!!

Z - what salon did you get this done at?  I'm thinking of dying my hair brown, and of course I want vegan products.  I was thinking Aveda in Blueback.  Is that where you went?  And how much did yours cost?

I know you didn't ask me, but I always go to Aveda and they're awesome.....the one I go to is the Aveda Institute, so they're all students (I'm not sure if they're all that way) and its super cheap.  I had my hair bleached over the summer and I went to them to get it back to normal.....while it took forever (they had to dye it twice because I had pretty much destroyed my hair) they did a great job and I think it was only $60.  Oh, I got a haircut too.
Or you can always call around to salons and find ones that use Aveda products....there are actually a bunch of other vegan hair product brands that a lot of salons use....you just have to ask....

Thanks!  I still have to find out more about vegan products but I pass by this particular salon every day, so it's the one I know.  I looked at it online and it looks like it has three tiers of prices (stylist to senior to master) so it probably won't be too bad.

If anyone knows anything else about vegan hair dying (not do-it-yourself, not manic panic, I mean salon products), then that would be helpful.  I've never dyed my hair before!
