Is it only me.....

But even if I still ate meat, I would be disgusted with the TV commercials that personalize animals. There is a deer head on the wall of one saying it would like to be a server in a Montana's restaurant. Then the moose head says there is only only problem...he, the deer is attached to the wall. So not funny. They make me sick now (always did) but how do meat eaters find them enjoyable? I thought people didn't like to personalize their food. I find all of these ads tasteless and disgusting. Do you think they actually make people want to go there? Many meat eaters I know love animals but disassociate their food from pets, wildlife etc. I just don't get it.

When I was really young, our vet had all kinds of taxidermied animals!! His office was also his house (in the country), and he had all of his "kills" lining the walls. He had traveled the world killing all kinds of exotic animals, too. Giant tortoises, panthers, some sort of tiger, bears, and on and on...I'm sure several of them are extinct now. >:(
My husband is a travel agent until June 3. He has a client who is a "big game hunter" that lives here in Spain. The dude actually has a Canadian guide on retainer who calls him when they "get a line" on a grizzly or other, so he can quick fly over there and kill it! And the dude always goes first class, natch! He takes his own guns...sheesh. This "person" has a pizza chain here locally--I would never eat there, what, do they have "grizzly pepperoni" on the menu??
Heart Attack Grill - nothing natural selection won't take care of. ;)
Big Texan Steak House - Their website states 42,000 people have attempted and 8,000 have successfully eaten the 72-oz. steak (4.5 pounds), a baked potato, salad, dinner roll and shrimp cocktail to win it for free (otherwise it's $72).
(42,000 x 72 oz)/(1 pound / 16 oz) = 189,000 pounds of steak
189,000 pounds of steak / 50 ? pounds steak per cow = 3780 head of cattle :(
That's just counting the 72 oz. steaks. The time I was there the place was packed. You had to wait for a table and this is a big restaurant. It's staggering when you think of all the cattle killed for all the restaurants, fast food joints and the grocery stores. It's got to be in the billions. :'(

There's a cabin that my husband and I stay in when we go to the Oregon coast, and on the wall above the front door hangs a deer head. I try really hard not to look at it, because it is really sick and creepy. AND there is a giant bear skin hanging over the banister of the loft. It even freaks my dog out! She barks at it!
The cabin is really nice, other than that. But, each time I go there, I think, should I say something to the owner of the cabin? Maybe leave a little hint in my guest book entry? I don't know. She seems to be a really nice lady, and not even the type who would advocate these kinds of things (deer heads/animal skins); I suspect she's catering to the hunters/fishers who stay there.
I think you're well within your rights to ask them to remove at least the bearskin for the duration of your stay; they could fold it up and put it out of sight at least. I don't know how high the doorway is, so the head might be more of a fuss. Tell her you have a phobia! And in a way we do!
Well, How many here ever go to someones home that has a big deer or moose head looking out at them? >:( I posted something last week about my neighbor's party that I left early from. Dead animals everywhere I looked in his home. I'm sure some of you sometimes goto a someone's house that has a dead "head" on the wall staring out at you. Could be friends or family. I just want to know who thought it would be attractive and fashionable to have a dead "head" on the wall? I for one prefer art on my walls....and lots of it!
I ask people why they have deer heads on their walls. They always say because it's such a beautiful animal. There you go. I think my mother is attractive, but I have photographs of her.
