Why do people insist on blasting the air conditioning?!?!?!? Just because it is 100+ outside does not mean that it needs to be as cold as a refrigerator in my office! It is a waste of electricity and not natural to have it so cold in here. I am wearing a sweater & am still cold I have goosebumps. >:( I keep turing the air off & someone else keeps turning it on. I would understand if it was a menapausal woman with hot flashes doing it, but theres only one other woman in this section of the office & shes straight out of college.
Does the air conditionar have a temp setting or is it just on or off? If there is a temp setting maybe you can just eke it up a little so it doesent run as much. I hate when people blast the air too, I know it's hot..but come on!
Here some warmth incase you can't win the air battle!

My neighbours had central air installed in their apt at enormous expense...she keeps that apt like an icebox in summer and like an oven in winter. My father used to do the same thing, he would crank up the heat in winter and then walk around in his underwear...which was also pretty gross, btw. :P
I told my DH not to expect to run the AC unless temps are over about 39ºC. We are NOT going to start running it at Easter and leave it on till school starts!
That happens here at work all the time & it makes me so mad. I've asked to have a cover put over the thermostat so that who ever is cranking the air gets the hint. One day, the temperature was set at 45F....come on people, any colder & it will snow inside ??? You should see what they do in the winter :o
I have hung a note next to the thermostat explaining why it should be left at a constant temp but do they care? >:(

Let me guess. No?

I had to look that up. That's 102F for the Yankees. Egads!
I just spent a week at home and it was about 100F in my house. I don't have an air conditioner, but I live in a dry climate, so I ordered what is essentially a room fan with a place to put in ice and water so it acts like an evaporative cooler with the energy use of just a fan. It's cooled down this week, so I haven't tried it out yet - but I'm ready for the next heat wave. When FedEx delivered it yesterday, I walked out to their truck and they had a bunch of the same units to deliver to people in the area. It's nice to know more people chose the energy-responsible unit.

Do you have a link to find this evaporater cooler?
wow- I wasn't expected so many responces! Funny how people on this board can relate to so many things other than the food they eat.
The thermastat says 75, but there is no way that it is 75 in here. I feel like 75 is the set low or else the heat kicks on & then by moving the bottom switch to cool it puts the air on. Oh well, not much I can do about it I guess. Thanks for relating though!!!
I'm wearing a hoodie, sweats, and socks most of the time during the summer since the other person in the house likes the AC on 72.
I try to turn it up but alas... I lose.
Then I look silly when I go to the store because it's also cold in there. I love being in my car because then I just open the windows, but when anyone else gets in, they want the air on- :(
It's a Sunpentown Air Purifier Cooler. If you paste that into a search engine you'll find a lot of places to buy it.

I had to search around to find the maximum size room it works with, which is about 300 SF. My bedroom is about 200 SF, so I think it will work okay. I just want a cool room if I need one. At it's best, the system will cool a room down by 12 degrees according to the manufacturer, but the reviews make me believe it's more like 8 degrees. Upstairs it can get to 100F in my house, but downstairs it might get to 90F, so 8 degrees would get it down to the low 80s, which is perfect for me.
Wow. Our whole apartment is 63 sq meters, and they call it three bedrooms, bath, lvg/dining room and kitchen. That's what, something like 130sf? I never could figure out sf to sm. Anyway I know for a fact you could put all of it in my mother's lvg room and kitchen. No wonder our footprint is so small! ;)
I have the same problem in my office. They always keep it too cold. The building manager says its because they have two conference rooms near my office and they want them to be cool for the meetings. Even when there's no meetings, they still keep it very cold. I had borrowed a small electric heater and was running it so my feet at least were warm. Then the friend I borrowed it from wanted it back and since it's summer time, I can't buy one this time of year! I'll have to wait until October or November. :(

63 meters = 207 feet in a straight line, but 63 sq meters= 678 sq feet
Sorry, I'm just a dork who likes math ::) your footprint is still def. great!!!
TT - do you have a footrest. I have one, but I'm short and our Health & Safety person made me get one because my feet didn't rest properly on the floor. In my office it's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. When it's cold, I plug in a heating pad and put it on my foot rest, slip off my shoes, and warm my toesies.
We keep the a.c. on 80f. Luckily we live in a really shaded area and the air doesn't run that much.I can't help it I hate being any hotter than that especially w/ how humid it gets here. I need to move north ::)

My feet are solidly on the floor and I don't know if I could find a footrest small enough to fit in the "desk well" of my computer workstation. I don't think that would work in my situation, though but I'll have to see if I can take a pic with my cell phone and get my DH to download it to my home computer so I can upload it to here. Then y'all can come up with good ideas for me :D It's over 100 degrees F outside here and about 72 degrees in my office.
OMG!!! You gals can come work with me. It's so freaking hot where I work. NO AC at all. It was 92 degrees outside, but it felt like 110 inside! I work in a machine shop, no AC at home, and the AC in my van broke last summer (too cheap to get it fixed LOL). All I have to keep cool is a cold shower, a fan, and barely any clothes (at home, that is ;) ).

Stay out of Michigan then. It's been 90-100f for the last week and the humidy is always 75% or more. 8)
Karatekid...my twin works in a factory that makes various car parts and it gets to be over 120F in there during the summer. Also doesn't help that she works around ovens that make it even hotter. She goes home and lays down in the AC just to cool down and relax.
Personally I like the AC too. My meds for Crohn's have a side effect of hot flashes so sometimes I just need it cool. ::)
We never had AC before we bought our house 18 months ago. Oh how I love it! At the moment it is winter so it is cold but summer just gone we had weeks of temperatures around 40-43 C (105-110F) and you could barely breathe.
We try not to use the AC too much though, rather go to the beach and jump in the water!
We didn't have air conditioning in our house until we moved when I was 14. The new house had a central unit. I thought I was in heaven! As I've gotten older, I find that I don't need it so much. The week after I moved to Miami, the air in my car broke, and the window unit in my apt. didn't really do anything except skyrocket the electric bill. So, I used fans, open windows and very very little clothes (if any, haha!) I'm in SC now, and I very rarely turn on the air in my apt, just every now and then to knock out some of the humidity (it's bad here..today was about 95F with 87% humidity, but not like Miami!) I like the feeling of open windows.
I went to my parents' house this weekend...it was 75 inside. All I had was a sleeveless dress and I froze!!!

Then you know what I'm talking about...40ºC is quite normal here for a summer day, not "bad" at all for July. When you hit 44 is when it starts to get nasty. We have topped out at 53 on occasion. When the street thermometers no longer register, you know it's hot! I think they've coped them so they don't scare people, they shut down at about 45.
