Missouri feels like another country...

Well, it looks like I'm def.going to be going back to Missouri this spring semester for college. I was going there before but transfered. In MO, they put meat in everything. To them, being a vegetarian means that you eat a salad with your BBQed pork... :o I know there are a few of you in MO, right? Tkitty? Mizzoukitten? Who else? What do you do? How do you live!!!??? I'll probally be living in Columbia and going to school in mOberly...Ill have to find a coop and a TJ and resturaunts....hahha...yeah right...as if...  ???

(((VegHead))) my crazy family lives in Missouri including my super awesome photgrapher cousin in Columbia! I don't know if she's veg, but she would LOVE your chickens, so I'll PM you.

Just think - it could be worse - it could be KANSAS  :o

Oh, you poor thing!!  But yay for going back to school.  I think that Colombia actually isn't too bad, though I haven't spent enough time there to tell you for sure.  According to Happy Cow there are a few health food stores in the area.

As far as eating here... well, I cook all the time.  And when I do go out, I pretty much have to settle for, yep, a soggy salad with mealy refrigerated tomatoes.  Sigh.

The nearest Trader Joe's is in St. Louis.  Closest Whole Foods is in Kansas City.  I think there's a Wild Oats in Tulsa.  Missouri is great, um, yeah.

Oh, and as far as I can tell, the closest coop for me (I live in Joplin) is in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

I've spent some time there, and yes, I'd say MO is another country...or perhaps I mean another dimension? ;D

Ohh, good link tkitty! Some of those actually look exciting (I feel like MO and exciting are incompatible in a sentence together...) You all bring up very good points- about whole foods and farmers markets and photographer-cousins... ;) Also, this SDA thing might be worth checking out because MO was the only place where people have ever asked me "are you seventh day? when I said I was vegetarian. I also seem to recall seeing a SDA church in Moberly.

i think we should all chip in and buy BP some vegan long-johns! BURRRR!

Zealia, give me a holler if you come out to the KC metro area!  :)  I'm on the Kansas side about 20 min from downtown KCMO, but I'm from Independence, Mo and head out that way and Oak Grove, Mo all the time to play with my ponies.    ;D

Also, there's Wild Oats, Whole Foods, and Trader Joes in St. Louis  (a TJ in Chesterfield too I think?).  There's a Wild Oats in downtown KC, a Whole Foods and Wild Oats in Overland Park, KS  (10-15 min west of downtown KC) and a Nature's Pantry in Independence, Mo.  Quite a few veg friendly places in KC metropolitan area to eat out at, too.  New vegan and raw food restaurant to open soon in KC, also!!

There's a lot of backwards people here in Mo/KS still, but some of us are slowly learning!
