Finally, this thread is born. Here goes! ;)b
Natural products which advertise their freedom from bad things as a feature, but they're so obvious it's ridiculous. For instance, "caffiene free" peppermint tea, or "cholesterol free" dried apricots. O RLY?! ;D
What made you LOL today?
my parents were convinced that after 2 girls, I HAD to be a boy so no girl names were picked. They left naming me up to my sisters, 8 and 13 yrs old. I got named Terri after the boy up the street. Then a middle name of Lee. My daughter's name is Tamela, pronounced like Pamela, and nicknamed Tammy. In Jr high, she insisted on spelling it Tayme. Sometimes I wonder how many people actually like their own names.
i love the letting the child name the baby concept. if i do end up having another i might just do that. i gave my first daughter the name Aurora James, i love boy names for girls too... my name almost still one of the most commons....
The name of a little girl ahead of me in line today was Charlie.
I have a name that no one seems to be able to pronounce without me telling them. Although, HLN anchors have said my name before and they got it right the first time.
how do you pronounce it? i thought it was like ab-ee

That's it! Like "Abby."
My name is also super common. My high school only had 120ish students and there were 4 people with my first name (me included). And there are at least 2 other VWers with my name. It's a super easy name, but I have a hard time with it here...for some reason people with really strong Aussie accents don't understand when I say it.
I don't like when parents give kids names with really unusual spellings. Or names that are really hard to pronounce. Or anything super cutesy. Some people don't seem to realize that the kid is going to have to live with that name for the rest of their lives.
Charlie is a fairly common girls' name here (possibly short for Charlotte? Some of the time maybe).

i'm a genius. hahahaa
I like my name. :)
^ agreed... pretty standard, nobody mispronounces Amy Love lol... i used to hate my last name though because of course i got made fun of in elementary school... now i "Love" it and don't even know if i would ever change it! shit, my signature is just "Amy" and a "<3"

Oh lord, yes. THAT. Give a child a name that will wear well, or at least that they can shorten or whatever. I hate people who name their kids "jokes" that aren't funny. Like the notorious couple named Pigg in the UK that had twin daughters--and named them Ima and Ura. True story. >:(
Charlie could be Charleze, like Charlieze Theron, or Charlene, which is from the Gaelic.
I used to know a girl called Grey. That seemed so sad to me, even though grey is my favourite colour.
I remember a woman in one of my Yahoo! groups was pregnant when the Star Wars prequels started to come out. She named her son Anakin. I mean--geez, why not just stamp his DOB on his forehead??

My parents had (possibly hippy-type) acquaintances who named their daughter Ayla. Like from the Jean M. Auel books. Naw, that wouldn't date at allllll...
Haha, aml, my name is Amy and people get it wrong all the time. If they read it they don't have any trouble, but if they ask my name they hear it as Emmy, Emma, Annie, Anna, and I even got Debbie once. Really?!?! It's because I say it with an American accent instead of a really broad Australian accent. Imagine Steve Irwin trying to say it...it would come out more like Eye-may. ::)
YG, yes, I've heard of kids named Anakin and other Star Wars names. Also Lord of the Rings names when the movies came out. I hate when parents spell "normal" names differently to make their kid unique (like Aleighshah instead of Alicia, Justyn, Alizabeth, etc). And there are really horrible names where the first and middle name make a sentence, like MiAngel IsPrecious. I wish I was making that one up. :o Someone should make a list of acceptable names and spellings and make parents choose from the list.
Sometimes they're spelled weird because of a cultural or language reason (mine).
I'm ok with weird spellings for cultural or language reasons. It's just when people are spelling it weird for the sake of being weird (or "unique", as they like to put it) that it annoys me.
that is really bizarre that they can butcher plain old "Amy" it must be a Australian thing LOL... eye-may LOLssss
i find it funny when people ask how to spell my last name... "Love", like I "love" you! hellooooo
I always thought you just made up "Love" as your last name for on the web. That's so cool that it's your real last name.
I've seen some old-fashioned, interesting names with butchered spelling, and I can only assume that the parents did it so that it's phonetic and thus harder for people to mispronounce. But it often makes the names look ugly. Like 'Shuntell' instead of 'Chantelle/Chontelle'. And I don't like it when people pander to ignorance in this way.

From the French: Chantal. Srsly. She's a saint and all.
Ah! Yes. That's much more pleasant and elegant.
I was standing at my kitchen sink and something slapped me in the ass, I turned around real fast and my cat was flying through the air! She jumped and butt bumped me!!! I cant stop laughing.
