Reasons to make the O_o Face

There are times when you read, see or hear something that just makes you  :o. This is the thread to share them on!

The other day I don't know where I stumbled on a thread discussing the Nancy Drew novels. I remembered how much I loved them and I did a little research...which led me to the original publishers, who also published the Hardy Boys and the Bobbsey Twins. All written by a cadre of ghost writers under cover names. Then I found a link to an audio book of one of the Bobbsey Twins stories, which I loved when I was a kid. I listened to it for old times' sake. The  :o happened when the author described little Flossie-aged-four's collection of dolls, among which was a black Sambo doll given to her by the family's "coloured cook Dinah, and her husband the stableman, Sam." Who had "excellent rooms above the stables." They had given her this black worsted ragdoll (named Jujube) which she kept with her other dolls..."but apart, at the other end of the shelf, and with a nice  piece of white pasteboard in between--because, well, he wasn't really family."

:o  :o
The story goes on to state that Flossie had thought about giving Jujube away but didn't want to hurt Dinah's feelings; "and after all, as Mamma said, there weren't any doll hospitals for black orphan dolls."

No wonder the Bobbsey Twins books went out of fashion. Nancy Drew is still available today...but then there was nothing like that in them.

So, VWers, what made you :o    today?

My professor this morning was talking about how no one really wears a watch anymore because they use their cell phone instead. He asked anyone who was wearing a watch to raise their hand, and only one guy and I raised our hands. In an auditorium of 200! That is so strange to me and it makes me a little sad. I've always really liked watches for some reason... I wore them before I even knew how to tell time.
It kind of reminds me of the nook/kindle thing. Real books & watches for life!!

On the note of the diva cup - I told my mom thats what it was and she freaked out, ahaha.

On the note of dumb coworkers- LOL the other day I was talking to my friend in the breakroom and this reallyy stupid obnoxious girl at my work just says "The other night my gerbils were eating really loud and kept trying to but i took him out of his cage and he ate paper and i really just wanted to sleep" The second I paused in talking, she like, legit walked in between me and my friend to say that. I think I was talking about how I was glad I found a belt to wear to work.
I dieddddddddddddddd when she said it and immediately thought of this thread.

I went out on an errand this morning and as I walked back home I crossed paths with a guy that is the dead spit of one of my brothers. Age, height, cowboy hat, denim jacket, sunglasses...and his face and mustache and the way he walks and the way he twists his shoulders when he's pissed off about something (which is most of the time). I did a double take and thought, "No well J. would be like 52" and realised this guy was too. BUT I am proud of myself because I thought, "No, of course it isn't him!" and it wasn't...and it didn't upset me for the rest of the day. Which is good because it means that the past is finally past.

This man (below) just ate his 25,000th Big Mac. What plays thru my mind is that there are hundred of thousands of people like him that eat this McDonald's shit everyday.  :o :o

Yeah, and I used to be one of them, not too long ago too. Probably had my last big mac last Spring sometime. For a while was doing at least 2 per week. One time I was on a project in Florida and we use to work late all the time and we would do McDs every night for dinner. OMG how freakin disgusting!! Used to love it. But now cannot stomach the idea, pun intended. Wow, the delusion we can fall under even with something so basic and vital as our health and food. Thanks for posting this, PM! I have seen him before and seeing it now lets me know I am truly on a new path.

You know what REALLY helped...? That scene in Fast Food Nation - must see for wanna be vegetatians/vegans btw - when Brace Willis orders a big double bacon cheeseburger (as if cheeseburgers are not unhealthy enuf) and while justifying the digusting nature of the beef industry cavalierly says to Greg Kinnear, "Everybody has to eat a little shit." It took at least another year to become full veggie for me, but it stuck in my mind for a year that this is what the meat industry and fast food chains think of consumers, I am sure of it now.

My sister eats fast-food every weeknight. And often goes home and eats dinner again so her husband won't know it. Sometimes he wants McDonald's for supper, so that's twice in one night.

Remark by my husband: "Soy is a poor-quality food. It has almost no protien; it's like eating low-grade olive oil. There's no nutrition in it. If you eat too much soy you'll probably get some disease like those poor people who got (pellagra?) from eating only pork and corn."

Oh, yeah--he's a real authority. He has never knowingly eaten a soy product in his life except soysauce.

I "love" how every Spaniard thinks they have a degree in medicine and nutrition, right from the womb.

So we have a 27" flatscreen TV. And I'm watching a French movie..and suddenly there is a BIG CLOSEUP of this guy's lips and three-day beard, covering the whole screen. A second later the girl's tongue appears on half the screen and licks his lips. He opens his mouth and in it goes.

::)  :o  :P

UGH. The last thing I want to see is someone's tongue blown up to the size of my thigh glurging around in someone else's big, wet mouth.

I have no occasion to engage in that sort of kissing these days but if I did it would put me off for life.

What is particularly Ethical about fish oil?
oh, that's right. Fish don't feel pain. The same way "indians don't feel pain." The same way "foxes like to be hunted."

Okay, so my car has started choking and sputtering over the past couple of days, just like my last one, and I had to drive my daughter's piece of crap Nissan that smells like moldy ass.  I got on the interstate this morning and turned on the radio and discovered that her father, who gave her the car that she can't drive, had set all the stations to country music so I turned it off.  I drove across the bridge in silence, listening to the dashboard rattle and stewing over the fact that I now have two cars that don't run.  As I approached my exit the radio apparently turned itself on.  I began to hear static and then it started playing "I Can't Get No Satisfaction".  I am not making this shit up!  The powers that be have such a twisted sense of humor.

I went cold effing turkey on the sleep meds Thursday. I've been awake for almost 48 hours and since Thursday I've slept about 6 hrs total.
Went to church this morning decidedly the worse for wear. Spoke to a girl behind me: "Don't I know you? I've met you before, haven't I?" Um....yeah! She's the pastor's daughter and I have sat next to her several times in the past 2 mos. Psychotic episode territory. I told them what was up...hey there are only 10 of us there and things were getting decidedly unusual.  :o
Pastor V drove me home after church. It's only like 6 blocks but frankly I was afraid to cross the highway on foot, even in the crosswalk, in the shape I was in.
Since then I have dozed for a whole half hour.
Me and Storm both.
I've got the whole enchilada of withdrawal symptoms: stinky, soaking sweats; muscle and joint pain; prisoner's cough...and as far as mood goes I am Cruft's Champion Best Bitch in Show.

Funny how you listen to some song you grew up with and the words don't really sink in...and suddenly they do.
On my Mp3 player I have the Monkees Definitive Album. A lot of it is just the run-of-the-mill early 60's, Don-Kirshner invented band "I loveya baby" songs or "She hurt me boohoohoo" songs.
Then, there's "Mary, Mary." Which, since I really listened to it the other day, I have decided to rename "The Stalker Song." Read the words from a 3rd millenium perspective and see if you don't agree with me:

Mary, Mary(Michael Nesmith)
Mary, Mary, where you goin' to?
Mary, Mary, can I go too.
This one thing I will vow ya,
I'd rather die than to live without ya.
Mary, Mary, where you goin' to?

Mary, Mary, tell me truly
What did I do to make you leave me.
Whatever it was I didn't mean to,
You know I never would try and hurt ya.
Mary, Mary, where you goin' to?What more, Mary, can I do
To prove my love is truly yours?
I've done more now than a clear-thinkin' man would do.

Mary, Mary, it's not over.
Where you go, I will follow.
'Til I win your love again
And walk beside you,
But until then.
Mary, Mary, where you goin' to?
