While trawling the Net in search of something else, I came across the following:

Those of us who have either witnessed or been involved in "flamewars" on discussion groups can relate! I never will forget the flying crockery on a Quilting Website, forsooth!! (Since disbanded when one irate flamer spammed the site to death).
It's very funny--but might be funnier if it weren't so true?

thats hilarious! as well as the fact that a quilting forum was attacked. quilting! such a loveable and relaxing hobby, why would someone come and attack it? weird.
I am embarrassed to admit, but when I first found the internet in 1996, it was chat rooms on Undernet. I logged...oh hundreds if not thousands of hours there over a couple of years. I was divorcing, hurt and bored.
These are so remarkably on target, it is funny and scary. I have encountered most of these people and I am sure that the rest of you see a couple of them in me!

LOL Great list, and so true! All of these people reside at IMDB, and quite a few resided at the various forums I used to frequent. What is it about the Internet that brings out the worst in people?
The same thing that can bring out the best in some people...they can hide behind the screen and be anonymous. In my case, it makes me freer to express myself without getting tongue-tied by all the strangers in the room, wondering what they think, trying to second-guess their reactions...all that stuff that makes and agoraphobes life hell.
By the same token, that same safe anonymity makes some immature jerks think they can get away with anything. The main flamers on the quilting site turned out to be successful professional women in their 50's...go figure! ???
