sugar

Okay sounds as if most sugar is indeed vegan.

Beet sugar is not filtered through bone char, so all beet sugar is always vegan because it is not filtered, but cane sugar is filtered, but of this only about half is filtered using bone char.  Then I also read that the bone char is used over and over again and is not replaced very often, so even the sugar that is filtered through bone char is very close to being vegan.  I can't find the original website that I was reading, the one above is another, let me look some more fo rthat website.  Here is a link showing which companies use bone char, which do not.

unfortunately though: very close to vegan = not vegan just sayin... your chocie

that's quite helpful. I've heard before that organic sugars do not use bone char--is there any connection there?

On that note, I have heard (I think it was brought up here) that sugar at the store that does not expressly say "cane sugar" or something like that is actually beet sugar... often the cheap brands, 'cause beet sugar is cheaper.
