Vegan WIN

So. My omnivorous husband is a construction worker/builder's apprentice. And the other day he said him and some of the 'guys' got talking about food, he let slip his wife is vegan, cue: "so what, that's like, just salad and shit?" at which point he gears up and explains the huge variety of hearty, delicious, varied, tasty and filling food I make, and points out we barely ever even have lettuce in the house, and that we eat a lot more interesting food than any of them.
I call that a vegan win.

I had a 24hr bug yesterday and wanted soup. DH ran out to the store and brought back 4 different types of Amy's soup, let me pick, then made and served it to me all while I was layed out on the couch.
that's more like something that would belong in an "awww, how adorable" thread. :)
He was making his sandwiches to take to work today, using the awesome refried bean recipe from the 'dang the refried bean recipe' thread and some baked tofu. He's standing there smiling to himself and asks me 'do you know what kind of sandwiches these are?' so I say bean and tofu, but he's still smiling. 'yes, but they're vegan sandwiches! no cheese!'
It cracked me up, because he looooves cheese on his sandwiches, and it was fully his idea to make these ones instead.
That's my wins for the day : )
My boyfriend's mom has diabetes, eats extremely unhealthily, and wonders why she's so sick. My bf was nonchalantly mentioning a podcast I listen to where the host interviews a woman who started controlling her type II diabetes by switching to a vegan diet (in case you're interested: Run Vegan Run podcast, episode 5 and 6, Interview with Natala from vegan hope). She asked for a copy of the podcast. When I didn't do it the next day, she asked for it again. He just gave the CDs to her today.
VEGAN WIN!
we were visiting the in-laws for my sister-in-law's 19th birthday yesterday and her ex bf was telling me how he's given up meat for lent and is feeling so much healthier, and has noticed much more energy, which he freely attributes to not having to suffer through digesting animal protein!
I doubt he'll keep it up, but if I see him again before easter I'll definitely put in another plug to make the switch permanent!
my step mom is going vegetarian... my dad is leaning towards it... they switched out cow milk for soy... i'm really stoked since my step mom cooks for my dad hopefully he will start eating healthier too :)
I made a chocolate cake VW recipe into cupcakes, took to an event, printed out the recipe, and everyone loved them! One guy kept saying "is it wrong of me to keep saying that these actually taste good?" and when I gave out the recipe everyone looked at it and went "Oh! I have all of these ingredients!"
VEGAN WIN!
I made the "Toddler-tested mommy-approved oatmeal raisin cookies" yesterday and took a bunch of them to school for some of my colleagues. So, I took them to the PE coaches first. Here goes the conversation:
Me: They're oatmeal raisin
Coach 1: Bring 'em on!
Coach 2: These ain't all healthy, are they?
Me: No, they aren't THAT healthy.
Coach 2: (takes a bite) Damn girl, that's a good cookie
Hehe...
I am so excited. I am going to turn my rice bag into a purse as soon as I use all the rice! I got the rice at the Indian market and it is the most awesome looking bag....I can't wait! :)>>>
My brother informed me that his vegetarian friend was in my bio class a while back. I said hi to her and stuff. She seems cool. We're facebook friends. I don't really talk to her much though, but, shes told him that shes so close to going vegan because of my food pictures on facebook. Haha. Awesomeeee.
Also. My mom LOVES the cake I made.
my step mom went vegan after finishing skinny bitch! vegan win :)
This is the best thread ever! I have taken to reading it every day for inspiration. I love this site!
I have had a hard time finding vegan doggy treats (and treats without HFCS, hydrogenated oils--but I guess if Americans put this crap in their own bodies, why not their dog's?), and I finally made some from scratch at home. Not only did they turn out just like I had hoped, but my dog Oliver and my parents' dog Buddy both LOVED them. And I posted the recipe here on VW.
VEGAN DOG WIN!
I baked cookies this morning for a coworker. She let other people have them and everyone loved themmm. And she was like WHAT? VEGAN? GOOD?! NORMAL?!?!
ahaha. Awesome. They weren't even that great imo. I was out of vanilla so I thought they were bland but they were raved about all day.
I was sick last Thursday, and my mom had to take my dog out to do his business. He pooped, and she comes running back into the house exclaiming how big his poop was, and he's only 10 pounds, and blah blah blah. Our dog is vegan, theirs is not. I said "Mom, he has huge, healthy poops because he's vegan." She was so impressed with our little guy's GI tract.
(another) VEGAN DOG WIN!
i baked cookies and took them to a bar for my friends i was meeting there. turns out the bartender is allergic to milk - i gave her a cookie. she loved it. she then gave me my next beer for free - win!
I started leaning toward veg in junior high, and my mom made me go to the library and research how I would "get my protein." Last year, my (same) mom hosted an entirely vegan Thanksgiving!
Quote from my best friend's 6 year old: "Mama can you make supper with no aminals in it so Aunty can stay and eat too?"
Quote from her 9 year old: "Oooo! Aunty's stayin for supper?!! Mama can you let Aunty cook then? PLEASE?!?!"
HA! ;)b
irreverent, thats awesome!
my win: next year, my roommate does NOT cook. so im gonna cooking everything. which means everything's gonna be vegan. WIN!!
My bf and I took a friend rock climbing yesterday, who then in turn invited one of his friends. We decided to eat at a vegetarian/vegan restaurant, and both of these omnis ate vegan! One was open to it and loved her dish, the other, who seriously does not eat vegetables, was pretty okay with it (hey, it's a start!). We then took them to the co-op, and they both bought some healthy food!
VEGAN (or healthy!) WIN!
Oh, and I took some Sparkled Ginger cookies from VWAV, and the carnivorous guy really liked them!
I took carrot cake cupcakes with buttercream frosting to climbing club last night, and everyone LOVED them. They kept saying "I didn't know vegan food was so good!" and "I want to be vegan and cook things like this!". It felt really good for everyone to be connecting my delish foods with veganism. At least the 15 or so people in the club don't have that stupid notion that vegan food tastes weird.
VEGAN CLIMBING CLUB WIN!
