Vegan WIN

So. My omnivorous husband is a construction worker/builder's apprentice. And the other day he said him and some of the 'guys' got talking about food, he let slip his wife is vegan, cue: "so what, that's like, just salad and shit?" at which point he gears up and explains the huge variety of hearty, delicious, varied, tasty and filling food I make, and points out we barely ever even have lettuce in the house, and that we eat a lot more interesting food than any of them.

I call that a vegan win.

Amy, how's the cooking business going?

hahahaha actually good! i have 2 regular customers that i feed pretty much lunch everyday :)

i got the one who was flirting with veganism to watch Eating and now he only wants to eat seafood on occasion (ya i know) but no other meat or DAIRY products! i feel bad though cause everyone (well a few guys) are giving him tons of crap for it... i told him basically if he keeps it up, he will be the one having the last laugh and his wife is on board now too :)

i make like $5-7 a meal so it's good for me cause i can cook more and have people to eat my leftovers :)

That's so cool, Amy!  ;)b

My vegan win is that when we were in Berlin I dragged my omi BF to this vegan restaurant called Viasko. He loved it so much, we went again with a vegan friend of his. Plus he said and I quote, "I would be vegan if I could eat here everyday." (I choose to ignore what ever assumptions that throws on MY vegan cooking...haha)

It was freaking amazing though! Avocado tofu canape, chickpea cucumber tomato mint tempeh salad, flat german pizza, gnocchi in arrabiata, and a super amazing panini with soy cutlets cashew creme and pesto. Drool...I'm hungry now.

Amy, that's great!! You will totally get him to go vegan. Have him read more about fishing, like in Eating Animals or something. Yay for making $$ for cooking!

Wassernixie!!! I just ate at Viasko with my omni bf tonight!! We had the flammkuchen and panini also! Yum. It can be kind of hit or miss there but I'm glad that you and your bf loved it! Gee, I wish I'd known you were here...

I cannot get over this coincidence.

Haha. Cool! Yeah, I randomly picked the place off the vegan in berlin website and it turned out super great. We were impressed anyways.

I recently moved back to Germany, I'm in Trier right now. However, I am applying to the Freie Universitaet Berlin for the next winter semester for my Master's. If I get in (fingers crossed), we are going to move to Berlin. We should hang out/meet up or such and eat some yummy vegan food, when that happens.  ;)b

Oh, wassernixie, that's awesome!! I hope everything goes well with going to the Freie Universität. What will you study? I'm not sure if I'll still be here by next winter, but maybe we'll get a chance to meet up before then somehow. Btw, are you German or are you here on a visa, and if so, what kind? I'm still working on getting a new one and any experience with that is appreciated... Sorry this is totally off topic for the thread.

FIL totally went out of his way to buy a can of coconut milk so I could make "that carrot soup" again.  ;)b

haha, awesome, we stayed in Trier!  Most times when I mention it no one even knows where it is.  Bet it's easier hanging out in a small town when you speak German though! : )

yesss!  Carrot soup is awesome, keep winning them over, one meal at a time!! : )

All the guys at my work were AMAZED to find out all of the baked goods I bring in are vegan! :) And they keep asking for more and how I am able to bake without eggs.  Also, several of them have asked to borrow either vegetarian or vegan cookbooks!

yah Lauren that's awesome!
The guys at my work were very surprised to find out just this last Christmas that all the baking I have brought in for the last two years has been vegan too.

this is a half assed win... but my friend is going to be putting my godson on a "mostly" vegetarian diet so she can get him off the behavior meds that he is on. she took him off one of the two, it has been 4 days and she is seeing improvement. I really hope she just puts him on a full on veg diet.

A fun win for me:  My extended family has unrelenting poked at myself, my brother, and my fiancee for being vegans.  So last week we had a big family dinner and saw a bunch of uncles from out of town, yada yada.  So, I made a veggie baked rotini with daiya and some squash and veggie sausage.  I barely ate any because all of my family gobbled it down and claimed it was the best dish there... all completely unknowing of the veganess until later informed.  Slowly but surely, they crack.

awesome! i especially like when peeps don't know and gooble it up and you're like... ya bitch, that was vegan... if u tell them it's vegan right off the bat they just complain about how weird it is LOL
