You are here

wave hellos

ha ha. i think i had no idea what a wave hello was. first off, i didn't know you could do them as a non-paying member. secondly, i didn't know that you weren't notified if you got them. here i have been ignoring year old waves. oops.
do people use this feature much?

i dont really understand the whole wave hello thing either anyone want to explain??

i didn't even know what they were at all... so when i read the subject i thought the thread was intended to be an introduce-yourself type thing, with you encouraging us to "wave hellos" either as a typo or as a cutesy version of "wave hello", lol... but after reading what you wrote i figured it out.  I still don't know what they're for in the sense you're asking, though.  ???

Edit: Oh, and I had one!  I'm glad you posted or I wouldn't have seen that it was there  :)

You may have to adjust your settings because I always get an email to let me know when I get a wave hello. These things are actually the reason I took down my picture a few months ago--I kept getting really creepy ones  :o !

It took me a while with the wave hello, also.

This is what I understand about wave hellos:
If you receive a wave hello, it may just mean someone is being supportive.  You're under no obligation to return the wave.  I've sent some out when people seem like they're having a particularly hard time, but I don't expect a return wave.  If they send one, it's nice, but not expected.

Or, they may be initiating contact so y'all can send messages.  I haven't had anyone send me a wave hello so we could start messaging, but how I think it works is that you send a wave hello.  If they return it, then you figure they're responsive and send them a message.  Or something like that.

Here's a thread from a couple of months ago about wave hellos:

They're like a nice hug for me since I can't message.

What are the benefits of becoming a paying member?  Beside supporting the site?

Thanks!

I'm waving hello. :)

Paying members get to see each other's email addresses and send messages.

I'm totally down with the wave hello's as they seem like a nice way to start contact with someone else, but now that I have recieved a few I am sad I can not send messages! Reason # 285748392 why it sucks to be a poor college student!

Sorry Capture,  that's also reason # 2857487893629 why it sucks to be a poor divorced mother of a quarter of a billion children. Were I a subscriber, I'd send you an email, and you could send one back, then the emailing could just take off from there. . . but, I can't. I got a temporary subscription once to email someone, but it's long gone. Since I don't have the cash--all I can contribute to this wonderful site is my great depth of Solomonesque wisdom  :D .

I discovered that if you have a signature line, it will be attached to the bottom of your "wave hello" ("wh").  What you can do if you want to say something to a particular person is put it in your signature line and when they get the "wh", go in and change it again.  You just have to remember not to send "whs" to other people while your sig. file is personalized for that one person.  You set up the signature line as part of editing your profile.
