SO HOW'D IT GO?
This is just finishing up and its lovely lovely lovely!!! Thank you!
This recipe is delicious! I cannot say enough good things about it! However, I will say that, despite its deliciousness... it looks remarkably like poo. It tastes great though!
Verrrry delicious! I made mine a little less sloppy (only 1 1/2 cups of tomato sauce), omitted the water - rehydrating my tvp in 1 1/4 cups of broth before adding to the saucepan, added a few shots of tobasco, and served on a whole wheat toasted naan. Who could not enjoy something so sloppy and satisfying!? :P

i made some joes almost identical to this recipe, but i didn't measure anything and i kind of just threw stuff together! i added red and yellow bell peppers and a little celery to the onions because i had it on hand, then i added some mushrooms. these are AMAZING and they freeze/thaw very well... so it's good for a make-ahead meal :)
SLoppy Joes are ground beef in a barbeque/chili sauce type liquid. It's supposed to be runny. not watery per say, but runny. You spoon it into burger buns and eat it like that. Kinda icky honestly.. :-\
the recipe sounds good though, minus TSP/TVP
Ok so I don't know what on earth sloppy joes are, but this was good. Maybe a bit runny, but not sure if that's how they're supposed to be - I don't think so, I think it's me not knowing how to measure the ingredients properly - had to look up what 1 cup was equal to - not a common measurement in the UK.
I did enjoy these and so did my (meat-eating) boyfriend, so think I will make again - but will tweak the recipe so it's not so liquidy.
Also don't know if it's me being a complete lame-o but it was waaaay hot - I blame my bad measuring out skills, I'm not lame really!
ok, I have to admit that I have NO idea how `sloppy joes` are suposed to taste.. but these were good. here are couple changes I made:
- I was out of mustard, so I replaced it with what we here call `adzhika` - it's spicy mustard-type additive
-skipped chili because it was already strong enough
-added about cup of sliced mushrooms (just because I had a lot of them in fridge)
next time I will probably use canned tomatoes insted of tomato sauce.
i might try this recipe sometime with tempeh instead...
if i do, i'll definately post how it went! ;D
Ooh, WeeLittleBuddy, if you end up trying it with crumbled Tempeh (and for the record, I don't see why it wouldn't work) give us a heads up. I really don't like TVP (just because it's so processed and concentrated... and it gives me horrible gas. :-X Anyone else have that issue?), so if Tempeh works out, I'd be delighted to hear it.
