Help! I have a whole bag of Quinoa, and I can't figure out the right way to cook it! I've tried following the directions that are on the bag, but I don't know if it came out right....It tasted kind of crunchy, like it was undercooked. Any advice is appreciated!
First, be sure to rinse it well. You will notice a kind of soapiness that rinses off. I put mine in a sieve and rinse it under the tap, and stir it around while rinsing.
Second, cooking quinoa is like cooking rice: twice as much water as grain. You will notice a slightly different texture than cooked grains, a bit "chewy", but definitely not crunchy unless it dried out. I think you just didn't use enough water.
I always cook it just like rice, and then when the water is absorbed, cover the pan with a teatowel and let the quinoa rest for 5 min or so before serving.
Hope this helps!
Sounds like it was undercooked. 1 part quinoa to 2 parts liquid. Bring to boil, cover and simmer for 15 minutes. DON'T PEAK. Remove from heat and let sit with the lid still on for 5 minutes. Fluff with fork and serve.
Eat it the same way you'd eat rice :)
sweet thanks! :)
first attempt was too watery, second was undercooked. third time's a charm, right?!?
Exactly. It's like anything new, you need to experiment and you'll soon get it. The first time I made quinoa it was watery too.
