Let's talk about our tattoos.

I don't have one yet, but I intend to get a few during, say, the next decade.  One is going to be a matching one with my two sisters.  I also want a tattoo that somehow symbolizes veganism.  In terms of spots to put them, I'm thinking hip or foot.  Not too sure.  I've also always wanted a little tiny heart somewhere.

What tattoos do you all have?  Where are they?  Inspire me, please!

And i just got my 3rd about 3 weeks ago, it says "I WILL LIVE STRONG" in my fathers hand writing (he passed away due to lung cancer in july 2007) on my ankle. (this picture also shows off my lovely pale legs haha)

I'm sorry to hear you lost your dad to lung cancer Sarah- that tat is such a sweet tribute/reminder of him!

Does anyone know if most "average" tattoo places are familiar with vegan ink?  I'm afraid when I ask them about it or request it they're going to look at me like I have 3 heads.

I dunno. I'm skeptical. I have heard that lots of places can easily order vegan ink. I asked around until I found a guy (who did my friend's vegan ink tattoos) who is already familiar with it. It wouldn't hurt to ask....even if you did have 3 heads.

Hi!

I have 4 tattoos..quite addictive aren't they? ;D

I have a mermaid on my back..a stingray on my arm, sea turtle on the inside of my right ankle, and a yinyang with a wave and a dolphin on the ourside part of my left ankle. Will have to get pics of them to show. I am hoping to add to my stingray once I am back in the states again.

I tried looking for a local shop with vegan ink, but I have yet to be successful in my quest.

Great tattoos everyone! Thanks for sharing pics :)

I forgot to ask...I have actually gone in and asked....one place looked at me like I had about 5 heads..haha, but at least it planted a seed in their minds..."they had never heard of such a thing and they had been in the tattoo business over 20 years" I was told...I think as long as people keep requesting it...it will finally take off eventually. I heard of people buying their own ink and taking it with them when they go get a tat...

Throat tattoos are the best. Sadly not so compatible with future plans.

This is my first, on my right arm:

ah, one of my favorite things!!

i have 12 tattoos. some are pretty big, some are not.

1. 3 red and blue stars curving up my stomach
2. a bleeding heart (i hate this one now)(below my pelvic bone)
3. a fairy that my husband designed way before we even dated.(black and white)(on my "love handle" haha)
4. an art nouveau portrait of a veiled woman (black)(on my back)
5. buddha's hand holding a lotus (all red)(on my back beside the lady)
6. a "classic" sparrow (rainbow)(on my other love handle)
7. added more stars to the original 3
8. a purple star on the inside of my left ankle
9. "om mani padme hum" at the top of my shoulders written in tibetan
10. a tree with the quotation, "For going out I found was really going in" ---this one is a tribute to my dad who passed away last year....(back)
11. a fat, funny looking bird on the inside of my right ankle....it's a friendship tattoo that ohm_i  and i got. (turquoise and pink)
12. a tibetan symbol for buddha on my left calf. (black)

i'll try to post pictures of some of them....i don't want anyone to see the ones on my stomach....having a kid was NOT kind to them!

my next goal is to get my back filled in with falling leaves of all different colors. i also want some song quotes mixed in with the leaves.

i was waiting to get one for him and i finally figured out this one was right. I left space under it to mabye get his dates, name, or something under it, but i'm not quite sure yet. mabye the infinity sign (which my moms cremation pendant with him is, and he always drew, so i'm kind of leaning towards that one)

All the tattoos on this thread are awesome!

I love tattoos, but only have the one - it started off as a small one and then I got it kinda extended.  This is a photo a couple of days after it was done, it's more evenly coloured now:

I really want another, but have to be really careful as to where I get it.....I'm not supposed to have any on display at work and tbh I wouldn't want to.  I tend to work with lots of elderly patients and I don't think it really gives the right impression/professional look.

I have a big ass peacock on my leg (pic is in my gallery) and Lotus blossom on my back, a matching friend bird that song siren02 has as well but we have the inverse colors. A wacked out flower on the back of my neck, "ohm" on my inner ankle and a really bad looking sun on my hip that i got when i was like 30lbs lighter. I love tattoos i want more!!

MDvegan is the "Love is Suicide"from the Smashing Pumpkins song? Love pumpkins!

I love this thread! Seeing and hearing about everyone's tattoos is so cool.
I'm hoping to get my first this summer, I've been planning it for about 4 years now so I think I'm pretty happy that it's what I want haha. It's hard to explain and I don't have pictures of the finalised design yet but will try.

It will be on my left ribs curving to the side and slightly under my left breast, and has 6 parts woven together:
1) An Almond Blossom (very stylised) because my grandmother called me Almond Blossom as a child
2) A figure 8 which symbolises me - my birthday is 18/8/88 - and is also the infinity symbol
3) A southern cross interlaced with a koru which represents my mother and her side of the family
4) A tiny figure made of flame which represents my father and his side of the family
5) A Maori symbol called the Pikorua or triple twist which symbolises friendship and support
6) A pig with wings - a nod to Pink Floyd, and representing hope for the future and belief in the impossible.

I'm so excited about it...

It was pretty awesome to come across this thread  :)  I only have one tattoo as of yet, and I'm waiting on my second one. The one I have is on the inside of my left wrist, and it's three horseshoes with the end touching, and then 3 clovers on the inside of that. It's a little difficult to describe, but it's cute. just something small representing both my passion for horses, and my heritage. The second one is going to be a short quote on the right side of my ribcage- "The Past Is Practice"- short, sweet, and to the point.

the story behind this beautiful seahorse is an interesting one....well, maybe to some. basically, my ex brother-in-law wanted to get a new tattoo ("Ashleigh Seanne" on his chest, for my niece/his daughter) right when he got home from his first tour of "duty" in Iraq....his then-wife (my sister) was in Kuwait by that time, but he neeeeded to have someone to come along to hold his wussy hand or something.
so, since wifey wasn't around, he asks me if I'd go..."uh, no, why?"  ....."because I'll pay for a fucking tattoo for You, just come on!" and so on.

this being my first tattoo (and only one YET) I wanted something significant to me. I spent the entire 30 minute ride to the tat place in Des Moines trying to come up with a design, but came up empty. I flipped through all the designs at the place when we got there, while he was under the needle, and I finally found this seahorse that I really liked.

I've always thought that seahorses were fascinating creatures, and I didn't know anyone else with a seahorse tattoo....so, I had the guy change a few details and the coloring, and Harpo the seahorse was born!
...actually, I didn't name him until over a year later, when I met a guy who got me (back) into the Marx brothers...guess which Marx brother is my favorite?? heh...

oh, and for my next.....

Since Mom died, my sister and I have been talking about getting matching tats to remember Our mom's one and only tattoo, which was a little rosebud on her upper chest. I've been working on a redesign that would make it still reminiscent of Mom's tat, but with some unique shape/line quality that would make it less generic.
neither of us have had enough money to spend on tattoos, though....but when We do, oh, that'll be cool.

Someone mentioned the ear tattoo earlier.  One of my co-workers has a vine on her ear.  It looks really cool.

I have a treble clef with a daisy intertwined through it on my back.  I'm planning to get a peace sign on my inner wrist when I have a break from school.

Its a pendant with a hollowed out inside, you put ashes in them and seal them up. At first it kind of freaked me out, but i decided to get one before we took him out in the ocean last summer, i'm so happy i did! I got a silver star, my mom got a golden infininty sign

Thats the one she got, cant seem to find a small picture of mine and am far to lazy to scale it down but heres the link http://www.perfectmemorials.com/star-cremation-jewelry-sterling-silver-p-2886.html

awww, that's so neat, Sarah!

they're a bit out of my price range, but I like the idea. I wouldn't mind wearing a bit o' my mum around with me, f'reals...especially since my sister stole her class ring that I had been wearing around as a pendant... >:( :P

the infinity symbol looks sweet as a pendant....and I'm sure it would fit perfectly with Your tattoo as well!
