Colonic!

OK, say it with me now: EWW!
I'm getting a colonic on Monday (eww!) and it's my first time. I wondered if anyone else here has had one before?
I'm thinking mostly about the side effects, and about what to eat afterwards.
Any advice you can share is greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
Why is it eww? I thought colonics were supposed to be all sorts of good and cleansing.

Poop is icky ... I think?
I don't know, I just feel a little embarrassed mentioning something like this in a public forum. :P
I've always wondered about them....I'd love to get "cleansed" but I'm with ya rabbit....ewwww!
I'm not a huge fan of poop either...especially when someone else is helping with the process.
Where are you getting it done at? How much does it cost?
Definitely keep us posted because as gross as it may be, I am really interested.

Oh, please. No bodily function is off limits here. We've talked about everything. As proof, please see this 11 page thread on vegan poo.
That link is a riot!
As for colonics....very curious...a little to scared to try it myself....waiting to hear how it goes....
I've had a few colonics. It's not as gross as you would think. There are no smells or sounds, so don't feel embarassed, your colon hydrotherapist does this all the time! There is a clear tube where you can look and see what is coming out if you want...that is the grossest part by far. Your C.H. can tell what kind of diet you eat by how your colonic goes. It lasts about 45 minutes. You can't really feel the tube after it's in you, but you can feel the water doing it's job. It's like a full feeling. People have all kinds of different reactions afterward, I got really tired after my first one, and then after subsequent ones, I felt really clean and light. Ultimitely though, I really didn't like it. It's just the whole yuck factor, and I haven't been back in a while. I should probably schedule one soon though, you know, spring cleaning.

Thanks for the feedback! That's really helpful.
Did you eat anything special afterwards/before? The woman I scheduled with said to focus on vegetables ... is it possible for me to eat more of those?
my husband and i wanted to do that a while back...but then i started hearing bad things about them...but i don't know if those things are true. i guess it really depends on who you ask. please let us know how it goes! i'd be really interested....i would just feel weird about somebody hovering over my pooper! haha!
One of the problems I have with a colonic is it seems so personal.
I have been trying to find a place around me to get one done.
Where I live I can not find anyone doing colonics.
Did a search online and nothing.
Trying to cleanse myself of the bad diet days.

That's the plan for me ... I mean, I haven't been vegan forever. And although Portland is (comparatively) a clean, green city I sometimes wonder what kinds of toxins have wormed their way into my system.
I'll keep everyone posted on the results. (I promise not to be graphic!)
Currently I'm eating a lot of fresh produce and more dried fruit than usual. Afterwards, I've heard that vegetable soup (or puree) is the way to go ... got to go cruise the VW recipes.
I'm curious: how is a colonic different from an enema? Is it just that they put a tube in to collect the stink that comes out?

An enema is a quick wash that rinses and stimulates only the lower bowel. (Wikipedia has more information here.) A colonic is basically a super-enema. It cleanses more of the gut tract, helping to remove toxic build-up. A colonic usually includes a rinse of good probiotic bacteria, too. Unlike an enema, a colonic is supposed to improve and "tone" the colon, and make it work more efficiently.
Mine is in just a few hours ... I'll be back to give it a thumbs-up or thumbs-down!
Wish me luck!
For those of you who care:
Colonics = tiring.
The whole process was very space-agey, with a nice belly massage and a huge gut-flushing machine.
The second I got home I had to take a nap.
I don't know that I'd do it again (nothing huge and terrifying came out). But it was a cool experience.
When I got home, Mr. Blackrabbit gave me a funny look and said, "I've never known anyone who's done that before ... it's like you crossed over to the other side, or something."
That's it!
lol! nice.
There is a Holistic Health Center near the hotel I am staying at.
Anyway I called them and asked if I could come in for a colonic
It was kind of a weird feeling
I was not tired after it. Did not really notice any big difference.
Forgot my camera in the car I was going to take a picture of the room.
It was a nice ambiance with some new age music playing softly
lights were dimmed and there was nice plants in the room.
Basically the one I went to was like a self serve center.
The doctor explains everything and tells you to insert this tube turn a few knobs and relax.
He came to check on me every 15 minutes. 45 minutes later I was done.
The fun part is watching the clear tube to see if allot of poop comes out or undigested food. ^-^
Guessing I did not have the major stomach gas because of the high raw food diet.
Only issue I had was I had to pee a couple times after leaving. Strange but this me.
Will try it again to see if makes a difference, Did not notice a big difference this time.
man, this topic keeps comin' up. imho, i want to keep my bacterias forever and evers. Nothing else builds up 'cept those guys.
