Hair dying?

So, i often dye my hair pretty rainbowy colors. I use this brand Adore, and just found out it has collagen :-\ I was wondering if anyone knows of any cheap, good, animal friendly hair dye brands? (NOT manic panic, bleh, i hate manic panic) I get like a 4oz thing of Adore for 5 bucks. Eh.. Stupid hair dye
Does anyone else get allergic reactions to hair dye since getting tattoed?I don't have problems with special effects, but everything else makes my tattoos break out in hives...
Weird!
Courtesy of Yahoo! Answers:
"When you have a tattoo, the inks (dyes) they use are injected deep into the skin. The ink stays there because it is trapped onto by cells called macrophages which are part of the body's immune defense system against infections.
If you have a tattoo, your immune system has become familiar with the foreign body 'ink/dye' so when you dye your hair there's a small chance that the body will recognise the dye as 'foreign' and attack it, causing an allergic reaction.
It's the same principal as if you've had a bad reaction to hair dye before- the body knows what it's up against and is ready to attack against it.
Hope this makes sense."
Muy interesante.
I used to dye my hair a lot. Special effects rules pretty hard, it comes out great (but yes, do use an old pillowcase on the first night) and lasts longer than anything else I have used. Most of the colors fade well too, It is a little bit more money, but I used to dye my hair a different color every other week and hardly ever had to buy new stuff, although I had shorter hair then.
Raw is okay. I only used it once or twice. It was a bit better than manic panic, defiantly not as good as special effects.
Thanks! i'll try to track down some special effects as it seems to be the dye of choice (besides manic)
lemme know where you find the special effects (if you do). i found their website, but theres no ordering info :(

Meggs, you're like the assistant that none of my employers have ever let me hire. That's so weird, and scary that the same perman et dye they use for tattoos is what they sell us to put in our hair.
Interesting note, the spellscheck wanted me to turn Meggs into MEGGOS. mm meggos with hot maple syrup....
Check out your local goth emporium for special effects. There's a few stores online... I can't remember them but google should.
Excellent. Mental exercises. We can do sudoku puzzles later. For now, we must dye our hair wild colors and flail it like head-banging muppets rocking out at a System of a Down concert (ignore the fact that they're on hiatus).
I dislike sukoku and dying hair wild colors (no offense to those of you that can pull it off; it's not going to get me a job where I want to work atm).
Can we do crossword puzzles instead, or get pierced and tattooed?
Ok. Compromise: We'll get tattoos of pierced muppets, while playing Scrabble and eating TJ's vegan Roasted Vegetable Pizza.
I just saw TJ's roasted vegetable pizza and thought, "they have roasted vegetable pizza?" ohhh yes, trader joe's, not TJ's the local vegan pizza place... TJ's should totally follow Trader Joe's lead and make that pizza.

I havent seen it here yet. Once i found a site with it, i think.
Yeahh found it. http://www.amphigory.com/special_effects_hairdye.html. Theres even gallerys of the hair dye if you click the names. hmm.. I feel some spending going on in the future.

I do my best. I think that's sorta creepy, too! It's strange that it would cause an allergic reaction in the way that it describes. I wonder if one of my tattoos has a different ink because at times it is puffy compared to the others... hmmm. Anyway, leggo my meggo.

It is yummeh.
I almost posted in the aimless chitchat thread, but decided to stop being lazy and actually post in an appropriate thread (though it is old-ish).
This made me lol a little because I think I told uS the same thing today haha:

ANYWAY, the real point of reviving this was to ask Keri about the Punky Colours hair dye which I had never heard of. Have you tried any of the greens? I'm thinking of getting one, since I haven't done green yet..
yayyy cakes for reviving the thread that i was way to lazy to find!
Haha, you told me what i told you i love it
I would like to know more about this dye too.
There is a website with no purchase info (what is the deal with that anyway?? useless): http://www.jeromerussell.com/
and then an amazon search showed a bunch of colors and also a 36 piece $320 dollar display kit for stores that I THINK came with all the colors. :>
I wish they had a gallery thing like Manic Panic and Special Effects..It's been a while since I've dyed my hair a color. Right now it's just blond, but I need a root touch up and a haircut so I think I'll do something crazy after that.

i always bought mine at a place called beautyco. then they closed all of the beautycos and i had to look everywhere for it. it is truly the best hair dye. my friend, gigi, swears by it (as do i) and she is known everywhere as being the rainbow faerie rave princess. our colours end up bright, intense, and last FOREVER! i usually have to cut mine off rather than having it fade.
if you look at any of my blue colours, those are all punky colours (with the exception of like two of the shades of blue which are either raw or special effects). in a lot of my blues i also have green added which was definitely punky colours.
let me see if i can find some pictures of my hair that shows blues and greens from them. (by the way, blue is the hardest colour to get to turn out right since it is so picky and if it isn't done right it either looks dishwater green or dingey blue like dirty blue jeans... mine always turned out super nice... BUT you must must MUST start with an entirely white base!)
this is what one of my styles looked like about two months after colouring it:
http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h130/rainbowdust919/18e852f2.jpg
this is the day i coloured it (but before i cut it, so the ends were sorta faded looking because i didn't bother wasting dye on the ends i was about to cut off... do you two also cut your own hair?)
http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h130/rainbowdust919/371ccdf5.jpg
this is right after that picture when i cut it... i am doing these way out of order but i'm just adding them as i find them. for this style, i had a blue-black base with lots of coloured chucks spread throughout. my idea was like a blue rainbow with lots of shades of blue as well as pinks and purples. i did touch up a couple of spots after these pictures were done. these pictures sorta show the colours well:
http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h130/rainbowdust919/28504b1f.jpg

http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h130/rainbowdust919/1623283e.jpg
(this one has a big spot that i touched up... i think it was supposed to be the black)
and here is what it looked like SEVERAL months later. it was very faded but still not as gross looking as some hair dyes get. as you can see, i have quite a bit of regrowth.

this is from a different time period (my most recent multicoloured style). you can see a tiny bit of the green in this one:
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i140/Brittney4290/Keriface.jpg
another style with the punky colours blue:
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i140/Brittney4290/Upload2-1.jpg
about five months later when that one had faded:
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i140/Brittney4290/Upload4.jpg
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i140/Brittney4290/Upload3.jpg
and this one is from almost a year later where it finally started to look yucky:
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i140/Brittney4290/keri00-2.jpg
as you can see, punky colours has amazing staying power!
(sorry, i didn't mean for this to be a whole thread of keri faces, but how else am i going to show the glory that is punky colours and prove its stay power?!!)
i'm sorry that i couldn't find better pictures of the green. but i promise i used it several times and it turns out PERFECTLY!
ha, keri faces = awesome. I don't mind if you post more!
So on your photos with the bright colours, I take it thats on top of bleached hair, yeah?
eta: cakes is officially awesome for reviving this thread! She obviously was officcially awesome anyway, but she's even more so now!
very much so. have you seen how light my hair is now? i bleach it just a tad bit lighter to get those colours to come out so true. once i accidentally bleached my hair so much that the tips were clear. i wouldn't recommend that. it MUST be on a white base.
and even where you see black, before it was black it was totally white. that way i start with a fresh slate and i can put the colours where i please.
clear tips?!?! that is so not good.
I don't want bright bright colours - I think I said in the chit chat thread I think my hospital would think bright coloured hair on a pharmacist is professional. I also don't think most of my elderly patients would appreciate it.
So I plan on using a directions plum (if I can find it) on my natural boring brown. I used to do this all the time when I was 17 or so and it would come out a really nice deep plum, that I think I could get away with at work.
yes, i've done that for people, too. people who just wanted a "sheen" of the bright colour. it should work nicely.
;)b
come to chat, if you're still around!
ok, omg, rd, my hair now (only 2 weeks after dying it with manicpanic) looks like what yours looked like after a year!!! i must find this punky colours stuff!!!
To get it super white, did you just bleach it tons or did you get one of those white toners? I'm all pumped about dyeing again (: Have you tried more than one green from the Punky Colours? I'm looking for one that has a blueish undertone rather than yellow so when it fades it's not super gross. ALSO, the blue on your bangs in the...third picture down..do you remember which one that was?
I wish I could cut my own hair. It makes me nervous, and I also like how at the hair place they use the razor and thinning scissors to get a lot of the bulk out of my hair because my hair is super thick and heavy and bothersome. My bestest friend cuts his own hair and it looks good, but I lack the guts.
ps: keri is prettyyy (:
