What's something that you wish was vegan?
I was thinking about this the other day... in the past 10 years, there have been big leaps with vegan substitutes and such... I'm thinkin fake cheese (though improvement is still needed, imho -_-), all these vegan-dessert-cookbooks, vegan marshmallows and some sorta vegan meringue mix. But there are some things that aren't vegan yet, or maybe could never be the same as when we last had them.
For me, I want a vegan copy of:
- These big, soft, M&M-speckled (I could care less about the m&ms) sugar cookies they used to have at Vons. I love all the sugar cookie recipes I've made with various ingredients, but I can't get these down!
- Crepes. Yes, the Vegan Brunch ones are awesome, but eggs are so central to the taste, texture, and cooking process of these and there and I've yet to find a good imitation that would pass with French people.
I know it's not the point of veganism to mourn about things you used to eat or "can't" have, but there are some things, specific or specialty things, that there are no good imitations of (while there are a number of things I think we got *down*). How about you guys?
lololol. i like fivehole.
Never had it. It most must be a Southern-ish thing?
i had it once and thought it was repulsive :P so not really wishing it was vegan LOL
my main thing is candy... peachy o's, gummy bears (i know there are vegan versions but they just don't compare), starburst, sour worms... yep i have a candy addiction, but thank god for skittles being vegan now :)
PEACH O'S!!!!!!!!!!
starburst in the UK is vegan (and the flavors are a bit different). It's too bad they don't make them the same way here :/
I'm not a big fan of the UK Starburst actually. I had them a couple times and it's kind of not even worth it. Mamba are better at that point. Why can't gelatin be replicated properly? It must not be noticeable with Skittles because of the crunchy shell but when it's just the chewy factor you notice it's such a big difference.
I like Starburst, but I think the sour ones are better than the original, which are way better than the "smoothie" ones. I wish the UK Skittles were vegan (carmine color or something), 'cause I love blackcurrant flavored stuff.
I wish I could get vegan soft serve. I know it exists, just not anywhere near me. I used to eat soft serve like a madwoman, and I dream of it sometimes. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh........wishhhh.
My only goal in life is to make just enough money to buy my own soft serve machine.

Crazy you post this. I work at a yogurt place and I want to get vegan yogurt/ice cream of some kind in there and my boss was saying she used to get some called soyjoy but i don't think they're in business anymore and it was really expensive. i'm toying with the idea of making a recipe myself... but it'd have to be cheap, low fat(ish), and super easy to make with not much materials. still trying to figure out if there is any vegan yogurt/ice cream pre-made that is available through major distributors.

I'm sure you already know about this: http://www.chicagosoydairy.com/foodservice/temptation_vegan_soft_serve/
Not sure about the pricing, but it is a major distributor!
Greek yogurt. I miss the tangy thick yogurt. I have not found a vegan yogurt that compares to it.

there are PLENTY recipes out there for making a mock greek almond yogurt. I'll having to find my recipe for it sometime.
A cheesy bean and rice burrito from Taco Bell. I make similar burritos at home but nothing will ever compare to the original.
Oh, and a Snickers bar.
Have you ever had the Jokerz bar from gomaxgo? It's just like a Snickers.
No, but I just looked it up. :o Oh, it looks so good.
I'm definitely going to get one. Thanks!
all store bought condoms.
So Delicious is about to release a coconut Greek yogurt.
What do I wish was vegan? The Weston A. Price, Dr. Mercola-following nut at my daughter school/coop. She is driving me nuts. I know I'm opinionated, but I don't shove my opinion down everyone's throats. I still don't understand why people are listening to her. I mean she is feeding her kids raw hamburger and has both kids (6 and 4) on a low-carb diet. Crazy, but I digress.
Oh, and buy the Jokerz. You won't regret it.
Really I'm totally cool with every vegan substitute I've ever tried for anything. I have never gotten a craving for anything I couldn't have while vegan.
u will have an orgasm when u eat a jokerz... no doubt

hahaha yes!
In that same vein, I want a particular disgusting aimed-at-kids product made vegan: those hot dogs injected with cheese.
(I know, gross)
Those were magical!!!
i wish lucky charms were vegan
YES please!! Dehydrated marshmallows in general, like the ones in hot cocoa packets. Please, please someone figure out how to make these.
If I remember correctly, you can make dehydrated marshmallows by putting them in a vacuum (space with no air, not the cleaning machine :)). I have no idea how you would do this without expensive/complicated equipment, but my science teacher showed us how to do this in 7th grade. He had a special machine, though. :(

that should be really easy to veganize, just make homemade vegan marshmellows and dehydrate them, i might have to add that to my to-do cooking list.
